There are four suit in a standard card pack. When cards are taken randomly, 9 cards should be taken to guarantee that at least three cards of the same suit. Because worst case is that 8 card are taken as 2 each by those four suits.However 9th card should be complete the 3 for one of the suit.So the answer is 9 cards.
